Maris Bernard, ASID LEED ID+C is an award-winning interior and exterior designer. Years of working with clients when downsizing from family home to condo, or to assisted living, created the initial concept for Downsize by Design. Curating a selection of treasured items to be moved with the client to smaller quarters, she has helped them achieve their goals of bringing the most important furniture, furnishings, art, and objects with them on this journey. Assisting them in dispersing remaining items in an environmentally-centric method focusing on auction, consignment and donation assures them that their belongings will be loved by a new owner. Guiding heirs through the process of distributing personal effects and treasures after the loss of a loved one, especially when they are out of town, solidified the creation of a business focused on helping families through these difficult times.

Maris believes that the foundation of the relationship with the client and key collaborative partners is one of trust and responsibility.  Our business is based on creatively and respectfully honoring our clients and their families navigating inevitable changes in life circumstances. Marcy Linder has worked with many clients over the years when moving or downsizing, often in the arena of commercial design and office space. Interviewing clients, listening to their needs and guiding them with proper planning, she has been able to make projects happen quickly and efficiently. Project Management is her strength as she helps her clients to see not only big picture, but step-by-step, the process for planning, communicating, packing, hiring, ordering, moving, unpacking, and finalizing all the intricate details for implementation. She has realized through assisting Maris with some of her downsizing projects, that her experience in the commercial world of moving and downsizing, directly relates to the residential move arena. She has always wanted to help people utilizing her talent as a designer and project manager. Through the long-term relationship she has had with Maris, she was excited to join in the journey of the development of Downsize by-Design.

Marcy believes that the ability to empathize is the key to helping people. She puts herself in her client’s shoes always and is grateful to have the skills to help people through difficult times in the journey of life.
